DCCC SUMMER 2015
The
summer of 2015 is the 25th anniversary of Pine Mountain
Music Festival. PMMF Artistic Director Don
Schleicher, who conducted the orchestra for Suor Angelica
in 1993, has asked me if the Dickinson County Community Chorus would
like to participate jointly with community choruses from Marquette,
Ironwood, and Escanaba, with the festival’s orchestra, to perform
Beethoven's 9th Symphony for the anniversary celebration
of the festival. The chorus will use the G. Schirmer choral score,
so if you have it from a previous performance (e.g., in the 1980s
with the Detroit Symphony), hang on to it; if you don't have a copy,
scores are on their way from PMMF. There is no cost to the
chorister. The participants will discuss
transportation, whether we will carpool or bus to Marquette and
Houghton.
There
will be a serious time commitment for this (see below). We will sing
the piece in German. The music is challenging but doable. I’m
looking for singers who have the time, energy, and talent to
accomplish this.
The
following is the DCCC summer rehearsal schedule for the summer
concerts.
Beginning May 12, we’ll
rehearse for our usual summer performances. DCCC members can
participate in 1.) the usual summer concerts or 2.) the summer
concerts and the PMMF concerts.
TUESDAY
REHEARSALS
Tuesdays (May 12 - July 7)
6:15 - 7:00: The church will be open for soloists and ensembles to
rehearse in preparation for Out to Lunch and Music
Under the Stars. Soloists and ensembles will be the feature
of these concerts this year.
7:00 - 7:40: Rehearse three songs for summer concerts (Out to
Lunch and Music Under the Stars).
7:40 – 7:50: Coffee break.
7:50 - 9:00: Rehearse Beethoven's 9th.
